Writing Retreat

Red Palm Ink recently participated in a one-day writer’s workshop retreat that focused on a number of topics, including tips on how to work more efficently with the media, successful interviewing skills, grammar, style and editing techniques, and much more. The workshop’s s guest lecturer, Jacqui Banaszynski, is a 1988 Pulitzer Prize winner in feature writing and the recipient of a national SPJ Distinguished Service Award.

According to her biogrophigal information from the Missouri School of Journalism, Banaszynski holds the Knight Chair in Editing at the Missouri School of Journalism and is on the visiting faculty of The Poynter Institute. She has worked as a reporter and editor for more than 30 years, most recently as Associate Managing Editor of the The Seattle Times, where she was in charge of special projects and staff development.”

Red Palm Ink is owned and operated by Ashley M. Meijerink. With an academic background in journalism and adult education, Ashley has more than ten years experience in publication management, writing, editing, marketing, promotions and public relations. Ashley currently works as a marketing manager with the University of Georgia.

Prior to founding Red Palm Ink, Ashley was the editor-in-chief of Lake Oconee Living and Gainesville Life magazines. Ashley has also written for Art & Antiques, Athens Magazine, Athens Banner Herald, Athens Parent Magazine, Atlanta HOME, Morgan County Citizen, Outreach Magazine and several other publications.

Ashley is a certified grant writer and recently completed her certificate in managerial leadership through a program offered by the University of Georgia.
